The Best Weight Gain Shake Recipes Ever!

The weight gain shake recipes in this article are better than any pre-made product. First, because they help you gain quality weight fast. Plus every one of them  tastes 1000x better than any gainer you can buy.

Weight gain powders, in an effort to pack in as many calories as possible, are loaded with sugar and other cheap, unhealthy ingredients.

Sure, these products give your body the extra calories it needs to gain weight. But not in a good way. Instead of gaining weight by adding muscle and getting extra calories from high quality protein and fat you end up packing on extra fat and water weight.

You’ll end up feeling awful too. Instead of leaving you feeling strong, healthy, and energized like a proper shake should, they leave you feeling nauseous, bloated, and fat.

Why I Developed My Own Weight Gain Shake Recipes

When I was in high school and college I was very skinny. I started my freshman year at 100 lbs and was 145 lbs at 5’11” when I graduated. I hated it. All I wanted to do was build muscle and gain some more weight.

In addition to eating as much food as I could pack down, I lifted weights 4 or more times a week and tried every weight gainer under the sun

I’ve tried them all, from Champion Super Heavyweight Gainer, to Cytogainer, and Twinlab 2500 which had 2, 500 calories per serving! I think 2000 of the calories in that shake were from sugar. What a waste of money.

The results were always the same. Any weight I gained from them was extra fat. Just as bad, They always left me bloated and feeling sick to my stomach.

Not happy with these results, I decided to experiment with my own weight gain shake recipes. After lots of testing, I came up with recipes in this article and gained the weight I wanted.

I’ve shared them with others throughout the years, from high school athletes to people recovering from illnesses that caused them to lose lots of weight and muscle mass and they’ve always worked.

I know they’ll do the same for you.

How To Make These Weight Gainer Recipes

It doesn’t require any extra effort to make your own weight gainer. I’ve done the work developing the recipes for you so all it takes is a few minutes from start to cleanup.

While I prefer an immersion blender to make my shakes especially creamy, they can be made with a shaker bottle or blender too.

No special techniques or cooking are required. Simply add all of the ingredients into a 16-32 ounces container, blend, and drink. You can also vary the amount of water I use in the recipes, depending on how thick or thin you like yours.

Add This To Gain Weight And Muscle Faster

If you want to turbocharge your shake and weight gain efforts, add a scoop of creatine monohydrate.

An awesome weight gainer and muscle builder on its own, it can help you add 5 or more pounds of muscle in less than a month. Plus your strength and workout endurance will improve too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Shakes Do I Need To Drink A Day?

Since it takes 3500 calories to add a pound of body weight, drinking 1 of these a day usually works. This is assuming you’re getting enough calories every day to maintain your current weight from the food you’re eating.

If you’re not able to eat that much, or are very active and need even more calories, drinking 1-2 additional shakes per day is okay.

When Should I Drink My Weight Gain Shakes?

You can drink your shakes as a snack between meals or after you eat. Whatever works best for you. The key thing is to be consistent and give your body the calories and protein it needs every day.

Another great time to drink them is immediately after your workout. This is the time your body needs the protein and calories  in these shakes to recover and grow stronger. Research supports this claim finding that having a protein shake post-workout enables your body to gain muscle faster than drinking something with carbohydrates (i.e. Gatorade) alone.

Why Should I Use Whey Protein In My Weight Gain Shakes?

Research shows that it is the best protein powder you can drink, in terms of how well our body digests and uses it to build muscle. Plus it mixes easily in water and tastes better than any other type of protein powder.

My favorite protein powder is Better Whey. It has 24 grams of protein per scoop and only 2 grams of sugar. It tastes awesome and mixes instantly in water so nothing is left stuck to your glass.

I also like that it doesn’t have any artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners so you know you’re not putting anything unhealthy into your body.

Are These Weight Gain Shake Recipes Expensive?

Not at all. In fact, each will cost you just a couple dollars per shake. Compare that to what’ll cost you to get the same amount of calories and high quality protein from other foods.

You’ll also save a lot of time and effort making and drinking these shakes. Instead of taking 20 minutes or more to prepare, cook, and clean up you’re done in 2-3 minutes.
