When ChatGPT went public in the fall of 2022 I was super stoked. I love all things technology and as soon as I got an account I was using it every day. One of the first things I tried to do is to use its AI to create a workout plan for myself. The results were okay. It definitely created a workout but not one that I’d want to do very often.
Even the latest version of ChatGPT which is pretty awesome overall isn’t all that great when it comes to making workouts. I asked it to create a total body kettlebell workout for me today and it did but left out stuff like how many sets to do, how long to rest between sets and left out exercises for muscle groups like the chest while including squats, deadlifts, and lunges all in one workout.
But, the way ChatGPT is able to answer in a conversational way and pull information together from large amounts of data that no one person can have in their head gave me the idea that if I trained it on workout related information only and gave it the right instructions on workout creation that I’ve learned writing 1000s of workouts for myself and others and guidelines from leading fitness organizations like the NSCA then I’d have an AI workout generator that creates plans that are a good or better than an experienced personal trainer.
So that’s what I did. After a year of taking classes to learn to code and write prompts the right way I launched the first version of Endura, my AI workout creator with a human touch. It does way more than write personalized workouts. It’ll actually be your own personal trainer (link) but in the article I’m going to focus on how I use it to create workout plans.
After reading this article you’ll see how you can use it to do the same and make any type of strength, cardio, and even mobility workout you like.

How I Use Endura AI To Create My Workout Plans
1. I Ask Endura To Write A Workout For Me
After logging into my account I either click the ‘create a personalized workout’ button or simply send the text ‘create a workout’ to Endura. The same way you’d do it with ChatGPT or when you send a text message to a friend.
When you do this with ChatGPT you get a workout sent back to you that doesn’t take into account anything about you and your workout goals. You get a generic workout that may include too many or not enough exercises for your fitness level, and several that you can’t do because of injury or not having the right equipment. Even when you spend an hour giving it detailed prompts the results don’t get much better.
Back to Endura, after sending your message to have it create your workout it responds with a request for a little bit of info about you which I cover in the next step.
2. Endura Responds With Questions That’ll Help Personalized My Workout
Using its AI ‘brain’ and the information and instructions I’ve trained it with, Endura knows exactly how to respond to my request for a new workout. Its first response is to ask me a few questions that take a minute or less to answer. They include asking me things like: my goals for the workout, what equipment I have access to, what exercises I need to avoid, how many workouts I want to do every week, and my current fitness level.
I then send my answers back to Endura. It takes this information to create my workout. I will describe what I do with it in the next step.
3. Then I Review My AI Workout Plan Endura Created
As you can see in the images below, Endura sends my workout plan back to me for review formatted perfectly. I can quickly see and review the exercises, sets, reps, etc. it’s given me to make sure they fit my initial request. Endura even includes detailed instructions for the workout and videos which show how to properly perform every exercise it gives.
Here is where Endura is different from most workout generators available to us. If I have a question or need a change made to the workout, which I usually don’t, all I have to do is ask. It’ll take my request and make the exact changes that I ask for. This ensures I get the workout I want.
Once I’m done with this step, which only takes a minute or two, Endura saves the workout for me and gives me a link soI can easily access and follow along with it when I go to the gym.
This video shows you what a complete workout plan created by Endura looks like.
4. I Also Use Endura To Create Alternative Workouts For Me
I also use Endura AI personal trainer to change my workout plans from time to time. Usually when I don’t have time to do the entire workout or am away from my home gym and don’t have access to the equipment I need. Being able to make changes to my workouts quickly and easily helps me stay on track and not skip workouts due to almost any inconvenience.
It’s able to do this by using AI to automatically recall the workout I’m supposed to do, take my new information such as only having a single kettlebell available or 10 minutes to workout and Endura creates a new workout that’s as good as what I was supposed to do.
Here’s an example. I asked Endura to give me a 10 minute workout using my body weight instead of my normal workout. The first image is the original workout, the second is the update it gave me. Since it knows all of the information I gave it to create my original workout I don’t have to submit it again either.
Here’s the original workout.
And here is the new 10 minute workout Endura gave me. Notice that it still trains all of the same muscles that the first workout does and the same intensity level. Just in 10 minutes and with body weight exercises.
5. I Have Endura Use My Previous Workouts To Build On My Progress
I don’t just have AI create a single workout for me. I use it to make sure the next workout it writes for me is even better than the last, building on my progress over time. This is a real advantage of AI. I do this by giving Endura the results from my last plan. It knows to automatically take this information and use it for the next one.
Benefits of Creating Workouts With Endura AI Over ChatGPT
Here’s a summary that explains why you should use Endura to write your workouts instead of a general purpose AI system like ChatGPT.
- Its Specialized Training. Endura is trained with the latest and best information specifically for workout creation, incorporating expert guidelines and thousands of personalized plans. This information is updated at least once a week to ensure your workouts are always made using the latest and best info.
- Endura Remembers You And Your Workouts. Unlike ChatGPT, Endura remembers the workouts it made for me along with my workout goals, preferences, and more so I don’t have to. All I have to do is ask Endura, and it gives me what I want, whether it’s today’s workout or to see what I did last week. I’m also able to quickly change this information. All I have to do is give Endura the info and it makes the change.
- Human Support. When you write a workout with ChatGPT and have a question there’s no one to ask. This can leave you feeling stuck and without your workout. Endura solves this problem with its support from real people who are strength coaches and users or Endura. While this won’t happen to you very often with Endura we’ll be here for you if it does.
- No More Long Prompts. Don’t get me wrong, I love ChatGPT and other AI language models. I am a paying member and daily user. But having to know how to write long, really detailed prompts to get what I want takes a lot of time and often requires lots of frustrating trial and error. All you have to do with Endura is send a brief text like ‘write a workout for me’ and it knows exactly what to do.
