ChatGPT is great for many things, but it’s not the best choice for personal training. Even with carefully crafted prompts written by an actual personal trainer, it lacks the expertise needed to create effective workout plans. But I have to say, if it weren’t for my experience with early versions of ChatGPT, I might never have started creating AI personal trainers. Seeing how AI could assist in personal training inspired me to create something better.
It’s an AI personal trainer built specifically for generating workouts and personal training. Unlike ChatGPT, Endura is specifically designed to help you achieve your fitness goals by offering personalized fitness plans and expert guidance.
In this article, I’ll give you example workouts created by both AI models to show and explain to you why Endura is better than ChatGPT for personal training and creating workouts.
Endura The Personal Trainer Alternative To ChatGPT
Using ChatGPT as a personal trainer is a mixed bag. While it can generate workout routines, it doesn’t ask the right questions to fully personalize them to your needs. Creating an effective strength training workout, for instance, requires specialized knowledge that ChatGPT doesn’t have out of the box. Even though I’ve written thousands of workouts and have a strong background in exercise science, I still find it hard to get ChatGPT to produce a truly great workout and work as a personal trainer.
This is where Endura excels.
It’s designed to create personalized workout plans tailored to your goals, fitness level, and available equipment. Unlike ChatGPT, which requires complex and time-consuming prompts, Endura is trained to ask the right questions, gather all the information needed, and deliver a workout plan that fits you perfectly. All you have to do to get great results is send it a simple prompt like “create a workout for me.”
ChatGPT vs. Endura AI Personal Trainer: A Comparative Example
Let’s compare two workouts generated from the same prompt: “Create a weight training workout for me.” This will really show you the differences between the two.
ChatGPT’s Workout
Exercise | Sets | Reps | Rest Between Sets | Instructions |
Squats | 4 | 8-12 | 60-90 seconds | Use a barbell or dumbbells. Keep your chest up, core tight, and knees tracking over your toes. |
Deadlifts | 3 | 6-8 | 90 seconds | Perform conventional or Romanian deadlifts. Keep your back straight, engage glutes and hamstrings. |
Bench Press | 4 | 8-10 | 60-90 seconds | Use a barbell or dumbbells. Lower weight slowly, pause briefly, then press back up explosively. |
Bent-Over Rows | 3 | 8-10 | 60-90 seconds | Use a barbell or dumbbells. Keep your back flat, pull weight toward your lower rib cage. |
Overhead Press | 3 | 8-10 | 60-90 seconds | Use a barbell or dumbbells. Press weight overhead, keep your core engaged. |
Pull-Ups or Lat Pulldowns | 3 | 6-10 | 60-90 seconds | Perform pull-ups if possible, or use a lat pulldown machine. Focus on squeezing shoulder blades. |
Lunges | 3 | 10-12 per leg | 60-90 seconds | Use dumbbells for added resistance. Keep the front knee aligned over the ankle. |
Plank | 3 | 30-60 seconds | 60 seconds | Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels. |

Examining the Differences
Let’s take a closer look at the differences between these two workouts:
The ChatGPT Workout
- Total Body Workout: Let’s start with the positive aspects. One of the best things it does here is make sure every major muscle group is being trained. An added plus is that the workout uses compound exercises which are best for gaining muscle and getting stronger. –
- The Volume Is Up Way To High: Now, on to the not so good stuff. With 26 total sets, the workload here is a lot, unless you have been lifting weights consistently for at least a year. Even then it may be too much. Plus it includes squats and deadlifts in the same workout. Doing this workout 1 or more times a week is asking to burn yourself out quickly.
- Exercise Choices Aren’t Balanced. A good total body workout usually has 1 exercise per body part. This workout doesn’t. It includes 1 exercise for the chest, shoulders, and abs/core muscles, 3 for legs, and 2 for the upper back. Instead of doing this the workout should include 1 exercise for each major muscle group and also an exercise for the biceps, triceps, and even calves.
- General Approach: ChatGPT didn’t ask about my experience level, equipment, or specific needs before creating this workout, so the workout isn’t personalized and designed to fit me.
- Thin Exercise Descriptions. Its descriptions for exercises in the workout are very thin. They don’t even tell you where to position the barbell when doing barbell squats.
- No Support. When you use ChatGPT as your personal trainer there’s no one to answer your questions about its responses. Every AI personal trainer should offer some type of support from experienced trainers.
- Lack Of Memory. ChatGPT doesn’t remember you, your workouts, or track your progress.
The Endura AI Workout
- It’s Personalized For You: By asking you a few questions that are easy to answer and not too personal before creating your workout, it’s able to create a workout that’s made just for you.
- Balanced and Manageable: The workout matches the fitness level I told it to, which helps you avoid getting burned out from too many sets.
- It’s Well Organized: Exercises for this workout are thoughtfully selected and listed in a smart order, with the most challenging ones first, so you have the energy to perform them well. You’ll also notice that there’s only 1 exercise per body part.
- Endura Comes With Human Support: Our strength coaches, with decades of experience, are ready to answer any questions you have about Endura and its responses.
- It’s Easy to Read: The screenshot below shows you how Endura puts the workouts it creates into an easy to read table, not a long list like ChatGPT which is harder to follow.
- This Workout Is More Easily Accessible: After creating your workout Endura saves it in your account. This makes it easy to access and use when it’s time to train.
- Detailed Instructions: Endura provides detailed exercise descriptions to ensure proper form and safety.
Here’s the explanation it gives for dumbbell split squats. “Hold a dumbbell vertically at your chest with both hands. Stand in a staggered stance with one foot forward and one foot back. Lower hips until both knees are at 90-degree angles. Push through the front heel to return to standing.”
Compare this to ChatGPT’s description for squats. “Use a barbell or dumbbells. Keep your chest up, core tight, and knees tracking over your toes.”
